carbonatom13 Feb 06, 2004 09:57 PM

well i've posted b4 bout my female beardie (170 grams 15inches) who has skin that looks much too big for her. she has been off feeding for like over a month now and i have been given her baby food from a syringe ( not by force though)...she eats about 3cc of that (it includes her vitamins calcium and a probiotic aka nutribac)....if i miss a day of syringe feeding she looks very sad....i keep her hydrated and i'm doin everything i can....i've tried every possibility (new smaller cage, new lighting, everything)...just about everything that has been suggestede i've tried (gonna try b comples and parazap as soon as i can get some), anyways i offer salad every day (consisting of romain and carrots) and repti-cal pellets cut up and soaked so there nice and small for her, and i offer small crixs, and meal worms but she won't touch them (esp the worms)... i just don't know how long i can keep her on the syringe feeding, its hard to do it every day.....any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

thanks again

Sorry, you may have said this in previous posts, but I can't remember. Has she been to the vet? Fecal test, xrays, bloodwork? I would rec. getting to the bottom of why she is like this. As far as feeding, 3cc of baby food is not enough for an adult or subadult beardie. She should be eating a minimum of 10-12 cc per day. I would also rec. a herbivore diet like Critical Care from Oxbow Hay. How old is your dragon? If she is younger than a year you can add some type of animal protein to it. If she is an adult then the Critical Care is a balanced diet for an adult beardie.

oxboyhay.com Youe vet may carry it too. It was origianlly designed for critically ill rabbits, but has been used successfully in other herbivorous reptiles. Good luck to you.

BTW, how much does she weigh? They can get blood out of some really small creatures. It might be worth it to find out what id going on. How about xrays?

Oh yes! That is definately big enough for blood tests. We take blood from 20 gram budgies and parrotletts. The legs shaking can be a sign of calcium deficiency. What kind of supplements do you use and how often. Do you have a UVB source? If so, what kind? how far from her is the bulb? How old is the bulb? That could be the answer to your troubles! If she is not utilizing her calcium or does not have enough that would certainly cause her to feel ill and not do well.

Yes, I think bloodwork is the next step. I am sorry she is feeling poorly, at least she has an owner that cares enough to get her help. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi
if beardies have parasites like worms then the worms wil eat all the nutrience .
so there wil be no much left for the beardie to digest and get more fat.
so it sound abit like youre case.
ever dianose roundworms,hookoworms on him??
then you have change it came back.
i advise parazap it wil kil a wide spectrum of worms .
then give same food you giving now but replace the water instead of parazap tea.
so you mixed it with the handfeeding stuf you already giving.
after 7 days you stop 7 days and then again 7 days parazap tea in the food.
i think that wil help you.
boil hot water 1/4 t spoon parazap in 3/4 cup hot water ,then stear it couple times til it cools of.
and then pour the tea trough a coffefilter bag so no fibers r left.
and then that tea use in youre handfeeding food .

There is a product that i had to use on a leopard gecko, made by t rex called stimulap. You add a couple of drops to their water and it encourages them to eat. Hopefully this will help. Good luck and sorry to hear that your little one is not feeling well.
