13 watt CP?

beriss Feb 06, 2004 10:10 PM

Was wondering if 1 13 watt CF is enough for a 20 gallon high tank? also would 2 13 watt CF enough for a 40 gallon? ALso whats wrong with shop lights with a full spectrum light bulbs? Im cutting down on my buget and trying to only spend 400.00 on lights and plants and stuff for these 2 tanks.

13 watts for a 20 and 26 for a 40 doesn’t sound like enough to me. The frogs would be fine with that amount of light, and you could probably grow some plants such as philodendrons with that amount of light alright, but light loving plants such as bromeliads wouldn’t work I don’t think. I just installed 120 watts in my 30 gal (see my post a little way down the list). As for shop lights, plenty of people use them with great success. They are just much larger than CFs.

So shop lights with full spectrum bulbs could work even for broms?

I have 2x13w on my 15gal high, and it is not enough to keep the color in the broms. I woud use 2-3 36w ones or 55w if they are not too long.
