Egg Question

Insideoutsider13 Feb 06, 2004 10:38 PM

I have a new pair of freshly laid eggs and they seemed dry when I pulled them out. They were also sunken in a bit. What exactly is a collapsed egg and how do i know when to stop incubating them? Pictures would help a bunch...

A dry egg is not necessarily a problem, but they should be incubated in a humid environment. A collapsed egg has very large dents and looks deflated, once this happens there is little hope of the egg hatching. If there are small dents, this can sometimes be corrected by placing a moist paper towel over the incubating egg.

I’d advise incubating eggs until they have either severely collapsed, completely molded over, or they hatch (of course). You should do some internet research if you are looking for pictures, you might also find some information about candling leopard gecko eggs. Candling will give you a better idea of whether the egg is fertile or not, because first time mother can tend to lay infertile eggs. See my post a few lines up for a bit more egg information. Best of luck!
