Gravid Woma???

lateralis Feb 07, 2004 12:11 AM

I have a pair raised from babies, last year there was much courting but no eggs. This year was the same, however, now the female is refusing food (last meal on 10/29)and she seems abit swollen in the rear 2/3 of her body. I am crossing my fingers but any advice from breeders of this ssp. would be welcomed as I dont have much experience with pythons. They were subjected to lower 70's to upper 80's for about 10 weeks during which courting was seen, though I never saw full coitus. I have turned lights back on and put heating mat on 24 hrs a day. They now see low 70's at night and mid 80's during the day with a hot spot of 90-100 degrees 24/7. I am keeping any offspring and may give a friend or two one so I will not be competing with you breeder guys, I just want to be sure Im doing things right so her efforts are not wasted (if she is gravid).
Cheers and thanks for any advice
Brett

I'm not a woma breeder (yet), but those are all good signs of your female python being gravid. It sounds like you cycled them right, so give her a nesting area and get ready for eggs.
