Disinfecting wood

tworavens Feb 07, 2004 01:21 AM

Had a leo die because of some (undetermined) microbial or parasitic infection. The question I have is, can I disinfect the manzanita and cholla cactus I had in the enclosure? Will baking at 250 deg for a couple hours kill off the germs/parasites? How about a 10% bleach solution, what is that likely to do the wood? How about Virosan or Quatricide?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Chris

I dont really like using bleach on wood personally because it sinks into it and takes a looooong time to come out. I prefer to bake whatever it is you want to sanitize at 350 for about 30 minutes to an hour. I'm sure you can do 250 too but I like to overkill. Just in case, I usually wrap small pieces with foil so they dont catch on fire.
