New Geckos are amazing, plus more>>>>

Well now that the new crested geckos are settled they seem to be doing well.......although i know for sure the larger is male, the other looks alot like Zeek in colour and size (a bit smaller than the male) and appears female...They were together for so long at the store with no eggs (at least i wasn't told anything) so i figured i either have two males that get along (unlikely) or a female not ready to breed yet. In either case i wasn't worried about eggs cause she didn't look gravid. Dont' i just learn that cresteds aren't like leos and detecting eggs is more difficult....great! LOL I am concerned now cause it didn't take her long to find the humid hide filled with moss, dig a hole and bury herself. Most of the moss is off to one side and this morning she's still in there. She might be hiding but i don't know.

Now i do have a problem....i've got the container upsidedown so that the top which is wider is at the bottom....making it very difficult to just remove the top and check for eggs without spilling the moss everywhere.

I've got the plans for a homemade incubator while i wait to find out about the hovabator i inquired about....if i get eggs before the incubator, is it ok to use a home made one and then switch them to the bought one when i get it or just keep them in the home made one?

Can you use an incubator for birds with reptils?

Also, my mom and i had a day out not long ago....we shopped, it was great. In the process we stopped at a store that sells tanks and i saw a 90 gal tank for $175. Awesome price seeing as i paid $100 for my 20 gal long tanks. The tank is longer than i am tall (4'9 1/2". My question is: would it be possible to permanetly split the tank in half and have a separate screen door for each side to house two males? This tank split in two would give them more floor space than the 20 gal long.

Thanks
Red

When i first started out i didn't know better, but now i do. The tanks come with stuff in them: food, water conditioner etc samples. Its really not focused on leos though, i have enough bearded dragon food for a lifetime LOL Plus a 20 gal L isn't big enough IMO for a dragon. They have a sliding screen top too. I can't find 20 G L tanks anywhere besides Petsmart, i just found larger ones 12x12x36 (20 gal L= 12x12x30) but i already built my unit and it only holds 30" tanks. I did get a 40 gal (15H X18D X 36L) and i have a stand that holds two of them. I'm planning on reorganizing the furniture once again LOL so that the unit will hold three 20gal, three 10 gal and two 15gal but will be inbehind my couch giving me room to move the 40 gal out so i can put another tank in the bottom. This also gives me room for the 90 gal which is why i'd like to know if i can house two males there.

No you should never house two males together because fights will occur and you might end up having a dead male gecko and an alive male gecko

he wants to separate them with a screen across the middle of the tank...not put them directly together. I'm not sure it would such a good idea either though...as they would still be able to see and smell each other...maybe a separator made of something solid that they can't see through would work?

I have split tanks many times. I get a 1/8-3/16' thick piece of plexi-glass and cut it 1/8" shorter than the depth of the tank, and about 5/8" shorter than the inside height (just under the lip of the rim). Measuring is tricky since not every glass tank's walls are perfectly perpendicular. Using standard aquarium plastic tubing, cut 2 pieces the height of the plexi-glass, and take a sharp exacto knife and carefully cut into it half-way all the way down the entire length, making a slit. Fit the split tubing over each end of the plexi-glass, and slide it into place inside the tank. The plastic tubing serves as a cushioned wedge for each end of the plexi-glass which allows for a snug fit against the sides of the tank, and makes it very easy to remove for cleaning or when you no longer need a partition.

Thankyou I planned on making it a permanent split so i'll most likely silicone the plexiglass into place. I did have a removable divider in the 40 gal when i first got the girls and had Abby and Dot on either side. The only thing was i didn't have it all the way up to the top so Dot would make her way over to Abby's side.

The 90 gal has a plastic cross piece in the middle/top of the tank for support so i could bring the plexiglass pieces right up to that and the males couldn't get from one side to the other.... i was also going to cover both sides in sticky tile (smooth and opaque so they couldn't climb, nor see eachother). It would be like placing two tanks side by side with paper or a decorative backing on the sides so the males couldn't see eachother. I don't think it would be a problem as the tops would be separate and secure on each side.

Right now Bronx and Boo are on shelves on top of one another (bronx being on the top shelf). They are close enough to know that the other is there i'm sure when it comes to smell anyways. They can't see eachother.

Thankyou for your input.

If your going to make a permanent split why bother with plexiglass. Just get a sheet of something thats already opaque. May as well save money and just get a piece of black plastic or something.
