Theres the Fluval 404, the Eheim canister, the Magnums, and the Filstar systems... Some people use different models, but the Fluval 404 and the Marineland HOT Magnum seem to be real popular.
I use a Fluval 304 right now that I got at a petstore that was closing down.. I bought out his lightbulb supply and he threw iin the 304 for free. But I'm upgrading to a 404 soon.

I use Magnums on both my big tanks. Only because I'm used to them I guess. ( 300 gal , 150 gal )
I've used them for years.
Bigger turtles can be pretty dirty, so I just keep the magnums going to take the edge off. I still change out the water 100% when I need to.
I have my heaters and filter tubes inside PVC pipes.
3-1/2" .
Then I drill a bunch of holes in the PVC. Keeps the turtles from busting up everything. It works really well. Last week my bigger guy totally destroyed a power head I had for circulation. Tried to eat it I guess.
I put that in a PVC pipe now.
