undertank heating.....

lanietx Feb 07, 2004 09:51 AM

i have a couple of questions concerning undertank heating.....

do undertank heaters "loose" their power after time? in other words... once they are several years old, do they emit less heat?
my heater could be around 5-6 years old and has ran non stop for most of those years.

here is my dilema..
i need to increase the heat of my tank a few degrees. i thought about just buying a new heater and see if it was a little warmer than my current one. that being said.... what is the largest size of undertank heater?

i have found the hagan heatwave 11 X 17. anyone know of any larger, actually i need a longer one!!!! YES, size does count! lol

i know i could get two slightly smaller ones, but..... i have no more electrical outlets near my tank! i already have those things u plug in that make one outlet into 3. i don't want to burn my house down!

Hi

Go to "The Bean Farms" site, they have seven pages worth of heating pads, mates. I saw a heating pad that was 11" x 48" there. They also advertise on kinsnake.

What UTH's are you using? And what are you using to measure the temps??
Usually reptile UTHs get allot hotter that needed, so If youre using one of those you migt be taking the temp wrong.
I use human heat pads because the heat doesnt vary so much on the pad, if you pass a infrared temp gun over a uth you can see heat variation of 40 degrees from one stop to another, while with human heat pads the variation doesnt exceed 5 degrees.
Also there are very long human heat pads, and even the longer ones are ussuallly about 15 dollars/
