I've tried with small little test groups using kale, romaine, and collards. Each group grew a lot slower than the ones I raised on chow and all prematurely died. I washed all greens so I've ruled out pesticides.

I've come to my own conclusion that silkworms will eat other foods, but will only survive with mulberry leaves or chow. I believe they will eat leaves of other plants only because of their instinct for survival and to not die from starvation. In the end this seems to kill them anyway.
