dead corn snake

mysticaldiva Feb 07, 2004 10:33 AM

i just bought 2 baby corn snakes about a month ago. they both seemed very healthy, but when i woke up this morning, the female was dead. the male is still very healthy, and i don't know what went wrong. these are the first snakes i have ever owned and i'm not really sure why she died. if there is any way you could help me find out why she died, please reply.

thanks,
rachel

Could you give us a little more info? I'm hoping they were seperate from each other, so whatever got her won't get him as well? Also, were there any "signs" that she was not doing well? Any regurging or odd colored poop? Where did you get them? A month isn't very long to have a snake, so I would guess it was either sick when you got it, or immediately after. More info could maybe help us figure out what may have happened.

I'm sorry for your loss

The best way to find out why the snake died, is take it to a vet for a necropsy.

i e-mailed the guy that i bought the snakes from and he said that it sounds like what he calls "sudden death syndrome". he said that there are no signs and he's going to give me another snake at half price.

I could be wrong here, but I would think free would be what he should be sending you. You only had them for a month right? A breeder once replaced one of mine who never thrived and died almost a year after I bought her. And he OFFERED to replace her for free, I never even asked. I'm not saying every breeder HAS to have service like what I found, but you can bet I'll buy from him again without a doubt!
