My friend and I were at a petstore and their was a corn snake there. It's tail looked like part of it had fell off. It was more rounded than (we thought) it should have been. The lady at the store said it was supposed to be like that. We dont really believe that, but thought I would check on here to make sure. Thanks.

I would say it probably lost the end to bad sheds or another critter. Corns don't have nubby tails that I've seen. They all come to a pretty nice pen-point at the end too.

Usually a nubby tail is the result of a few bad or incomplete sheds.
The very end of the tail will sometimes retain the skin during a shed. If this happens the next few sheds can do the same until you have several layers of dead skin at the tip of the tail. This will cause the end of the tail to die and become brittle.
This portion of the tail will then drop off leaving a "stubby" or "nubby" tail.
So, if you have snakes always check them thoroughly, after a shed, for any retained skin.

Thanks. I figured it had lost the end of the tail somehow, but was just checking to back up my thinking. This is why I dont trust most people working at pet stores, especially the large chains that hire anyone to sell animals. Thanks again.
