Winter feeding tip.

Rik Feb 07, 2004 11:14 AM

I live in the northeast (Massachusetts) and finding a variety of good quality greens in the winter can be a problem sometimes. Here is what I do. On the rare occasion when you find dandelion greens in the grocery store, cut off the leafy stuff that you normally feed your uro and put the stalks in water. they will grow roots. then plant them in some dirt and put them on a window sill to get sun or if you have a dirt substrate just plant them in the cage after they get roots. works good and they are a good food source, and they stay fresh. I'm sure some have already thought of this but for the ones who have not, give it a try.

How long does it take for the stalks to grow leaves and what not from when you put them in water??
I wanted to try this but didnt know if it was worth it.

It only takes a weak or two and once they start rooting they grow quick. I use this stuff called Take Root that you dip the roots in before planting and it speeds up the process.
