Is this Normal?

RedQuake Jun 08, 2003 09:32 AM

Is it normal for a leopard gecko to eat only one or two crickets a day after being sick? I cleaned out his cage today and found 4 of the 5 crickets i put in last nite. He just ate one a few minutes ago too. He produced a normal poop last nite, so far no more undigested crickets. I've removed the back legs of some of the crickets so that its easier for him to catch. I did have mealworms in there but he didn't touch them. Does anyone think he'll gain weight eating like he is?

Any input is greatly appreciated

Ya know i really have no clue. Worst case, he got the substrate i was using stuck in his digestive track. Paper towels from here on out! I know i know slap me! All this time and i never had any trouble. My guess is that he got a mouthful after going after a mealworm. I found a few that had escaped the bowl they were in. I watched him poop out a few particles and since then he's eaten, drank and *pooped normally*. I also think he got very dehydrated cause he wouldn't use the other water bowl i had in the 10 gal tank. Once i put in his dish he drank. He was in his cave when i got home but just a minute ago he stuck his head out. Unfortunetly if he sees me he goes back which he did. Once i turn out all the lights and go to bed, he'll come out
I guess i want to know whether 1-2 crickets a day is enough or if i should be giving him Repta Aid to increase his nutrient intake?
When Jake died from impaction(peat moss in humid hide) his deteriation and death were very swift (from the nite before until 3pm the next day when i got home from work....i didn't even see any signs that he was sick before i left for work).
Leo on the other hand lost some weight, so i knew there was a problem. I thought maybe there was a parasitic infection or something so i transfered him to the 10 gal. From there he went downhill fast, so i'm thinking now that he's pooped normally that its the dehydration that really made him take a turn for the worst.
Typical woman i've rambled on lol........sorry If you've got any ideas on how i can increase his intake of food please let me know

Thanks a million
