Pyxie question

DAVO Feb 07, 2004 01:10 PM

I have a pyxie thats about 3"-4" long. I keep it in about 1" of water. I tried using bed a beast and the water bowl but it's so messy. The frog gets the stuff everywhere and the water bowl is constantly dirty. I've had it in the "water only" set up for at least a year with no problems. It's tripled in size and is always hungery. How do I know if it's a male or female? Also is it true that if it is a female it's almost full grown? Thanks in advance dave

you gotta change the water bowl every other day anyways. I much rather use bed a beast and just have to easily change the bowl rather than all of the tank.
and about the size, it depends if you have the dwarf version or the giant version. If yours is indeed dwarf then it is soon to be full grown

Agreed. Frogs stress when kept in plain water and this has not been an accepted practice for keeping these frogs for years (since the early to mid 90's). It would be OPTIMAL to get him back on to bed a beast. If you do have a totally blank set up with just water, it still has to be changed everyday. So the water bowl set up would be the least work and the best for the frog. Females true pyxies are adult at about 4-5 inches. Males from about 6-9. Male dwarf pyxies about 4.5-6, and females below that.
