i have an extra ten gallon tank full of java moss(underwater) that doesn't seem to be growing. does the moss grow better on land?

Also i have two 15 watt flouresents on the moss is that enough or should i switch to a high output compact f. if i do is there any that fit into normal tube fixtures?

also if they grow better on land how would i set up a tank that would allow growth to happine?

Java grows best under high intensity lighting. Under water it will grow well, but getting the intensity down to it is much harder than in a terrarium. I've grown it both ways, and I think it grows much better in a dart frog type setup, growing over constantly wet rocks (like a waterfall) with high intensity lighting. It will survive under lower lighting conditions, but the growth slows to a creep.

I've got to say that about 1000-2000 footcandles is ideal in my experience.

Try increasing the lighting and rigging up a do-it-yourself CO2 system using sugar and yeast. Try doing a google search for DIY C02. That will have your moss growing great. You should even be able to sell your extra moss to the local fish store for a good price.
