cage cover for baby day geckos

serj Jun 08, 2003 10:17 AM

Hello,
Yesterday I had one of 8 eggs hatch and out came a very tiny(about the size of my fingernail) gold dust day gecko. I took him out of his little incubation chamber and into a seperate terrarium I have setup for the hatchlings, however the problem is that the screen is not thin enough..in that he can slip through the holes, I did research and apparently the smallest I can find is 1/8 inch mesh, right now he's in 1/4 inch however as small as he is I think he might even be able to fit through the 1/8 too. Right now I have a temporary screen duct taped under the actual cover screen that he cant fit through, however the basking lamp creates enough heat to make the duct tape fall off somewhat. Does anyone have some experience with this and can tell me where I could get(or even how to make) the appropriate cover?

Josh

Try overlapping the 1/8 screen with another layer but make sure the wires go in between one of the squares. Don't really know how to make sense of that, but maybe you will know what I'm talking about.

It turns out the 1/8 inch mesh does seem to be enough to keep him in. -=o] I'm glad, I wasn't lookin forward to the extra work that I was afriad I might have to do.
