Joe.... (jdany) Silkworm egg questions

wraithy Feb 07, 2004 07:02 PM

I got the silkworm eggs...thanks for the prompt delivery!!

I have a couple of questions...How long do they take to hatch? There were some eggs not in the dish that I placed in another petri dish. Do I need to have any substrate under the eggs or are they okay in the petri dish? I assume i should only put chow in there once the eggs start hatching but I dont know for sure. Also, is there an optimal temp for them? Should I put them in the incubator or just leave them in the herp room they are in now?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

How long do they take to hatch?
About a week after you get them.

No substrate needed. Just keep the eggs in the petri dish.

I assume i should only put chow in there once the eggs start hatching but I dont know for sure.
Start feeding only after the eggs have hatched.

Also, is there an optimal temp for them?
Eggs and young worms will do better between 75-85 degrees.
The warmer you keep them, the faster they will develop.

Should I put them in the incubator or just leave them in the herp room they are in now?
if your herp room heats up better than room temp, they'll do fine in there.
