Burgundy question

jgjulander Feb 07, 2004 07:16 PM

So I have seen some of the burgundy balls around and wondered about them. I saw one site that had prooven them as a recessive trait. There seems to be alot out there in different collections.
-Are they worth more once they are prooven?
-How many have been prooven?
-What is the approximate value of a prooven vs. unproven burgundy?

Thanks for any help

Justin,

There is a large price difference once they have been proven. Unproven lines are selling from $600-$2000ea depending on sex and age. Proven lines are selling for $5000ea. I know Vin Russo has proven his line and I believe there are a few others that have proven them out as well. I believe there are both some proven and unproven ones on the Classifieds for sale.

My unproven Burgundy female just finished her pre egg-lay shed. If all goes well, I should be able to prover her out next season. Not sure what I'll charge if she does prove to be genetic...

Thanks for the information guys. The reason I ask is my partner got a huge female burgundy and she is currently breeding with our het piebald male. I guess I'll have to proove her out next season. Has anyone ever had a burgundy not prooved out?

I think that once there are some established lines, and
someone does something *interesting* with them, they will
gain in popularity...
This female gave me 9 eggs last season, but hasn't really
put back on the weight so I don't think I'll be able to 'prove'
(fingers crossed) her out this year...
