confused about handling an active ball

mustang67ford Feb 07, 2004 07:44 PM

I can't say how many times I have read about people sitting and watching tv or something with thier ball wraped hapily aroung thier rist or in thier hand. I find this hard to believe. Whenever I get my ball out and sit with him, he stays ocupied for about a minute then he looks around and is working his way down my arm and trying to get down. My ball just seems to be very active. He will not just sit there, he has to investigate. Then there are the people I see with them around thier neck. Mine wouldn't stay still long enough. Anybody else have an overly active/curious ball?

Just like you i have a active ball as well. When you are handling it just keep moving your hands around so that is always has something to climb on and in time it will settle down a little and just sit. It could also be that it is looking for food. How often do you feed and how much does it get at each feeding?

I have four balls. My niece loves my oldest one because she has such a laid back temperament. She'll stretch out but is very slow going and will sit in your lap, around your neck, etc. She is also not shy or headshy at all, so you can poke her, prod her or bring her around almost any kind of stimulation and she'll remain laid back, but not shy at all.

My ghost is the shy-to-the-extreme kind of ball and will sit indefinately in your hands/lap in a ball, with his head poking out after he feels safer. It takes half an hour or more of handling with little to no movement before he will unwrap himself. He is little more than a year old and has been handled quite frequently, so this is his personality, not a fear of being held.

I have two 03s, a pastel and a normal who have pretty similar personalities. They are like your ball, will be quiet for a few seconds, then are everywhere. I definately couldn't sit at the computer or TV with them or anything! I figure even if they are not the picture of docile ball pythons, they definately get some good exercise when handled.
