Egg Incubators

reptile_dude Feb 07, 2004 08:39 PM

I have tried a couple of home made incubator ideas, and none have worked for me so far. Any home made ideas would be greatly appreciated or a reccomendation on a store bought one.

The most important thing about incubating eggs are the egg containers. You must make sure you have humidity right, it cant be too wet or two dry. After that its all about keeping a constant temperature. You could use a cooler, a underwater heater(for fish tanks) and bricks to hold your containers above water. Just make sure you get the containers right, check out my sites care page for further information on how to make egg containers. I use a hovabator and they are pretty cheap nowadays. I think its worth the investment. A cooler and a water heater is just as expensive.

if you are just incubating leo eggs i would recomend a hobovator.... but because of the type of wafer thermostat it has the ambient room temp caucan cause fluctuation so i would sugest keeping a good eye on it... and possibly invest in a temp gun... you can get ranco temp guns at www.beanfarm.com or go to http://www.tempgun.com/reptiles.html and purchase one from them... these are less expensive but possibly not quite as accurate as ranco... i have both of them.. the temp guns at proexotics may be off /1 2 degrees which still is very accurate... either one is well worth the money.....
as far as home made incubators the only good ones i have heard of were a.) either onces built using an insulated ice cooler or b.) using an old refrisgerator heere is a link http://www.arbreptiles.com/cages/incubator.shtml
i dont have a link for the cooler one though maybe this can help
