Dents in eggs?

bbible Feb 07, 2004 09:24 PM

Our female gecko finally laid an egg yesterday. We carefully transported the egg (in its original position) to an incubator where we have kept it ever since. We just noticed a few minutes ago that there appears to be a small 'dent' in the top of the egg.

Any idea of what this is from? The egg hasn't been struck by anything (it has been in the incubator the entire time). Should we be worried about this?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If they are fertile you may not have enough humidity in there.
You can add a little more water carfully to the side. If you have something to measure humidity it would really help. You want the humidity level to be about 85%.
If you have too many holes in the container you can lose a little humidity that way too.
One trick that worked for me when I had one with a dent was takeing a small peice of papertowel wetting it, then squezing out the excess water till it is just a little damp and place it over the egg overnight. Make sure you check on it so the paper towel dosen't get dry. Mine popped out overnight, but you may need to leave it longer just make sure the paper towel peice is still damp. If it is fertile it shoud pop back out.

if it is her first clutch it might be a dud.. just wait it out you will know when and if the eggs goes bad... they colapse, mold over and get stinky.. in the mean time i would put the male back in with her if he isnt already and keep him there until you get nice plump fertile eggs

sometimes the first eggs laid are duds.. however.. just keep the incubation medium moist. Do not "water/spray " the egg as this will doom it.
