For Marcia...about t-rex crested gecko food...

azteclizard Feb 08, 2004 12:03 AM

I saw your post today way down there about the crested gecko food as "force feeding" formula. I can tell you that I have just about my entire colony of Rhacs on the diets for about a year now. They are complete foods that take "advantage" of the fact that Rhacs are omnivorous frugivours. It has honey powder and banana powder in it to act as an attractant, and is loaded with ingredients that provide all the nutrition the geckos need. It is the only food my Rhacs receive...i.e. no insects. For the purpose that the thread was about, I would use the Gargoyle gecko formula as it is higher in protien...although I think the crested formula would be fine. Let me know if you have anymore ?'s about them. You can read more about the ingredients and why they were chosen if you go to www.t-rexproducts.com...click on reptile products...sanfire superfoods...any of the listed products...then ingredients on the upper right.
good luck

No I don't add calcium to the diets. They contain all the macro and micro nutrients that are needed in calculated ratio. I would watch how much babyfood you add to the t-rex diet, as you will skew the ratio of nutrients. Over time it could result in a deficiency if you do not feed dusted insects also. The diet should make up all of most of the mix.

I also have been using the gargoyle diet for over a year now. I use it a little differnt, I still feed insects and mashed fruit. I feed it to all my Rhacs, cresteds, gargoyles and chahoua's. I wiil add alittle cal when the females are gravid.

This is a great product... I'll have to get some and try it. The only thing I wonder about is the amount of fruit for a leo. Have you tried it on convalescing leopards? Does it give them loose stools?

Fortunately, I have not had any convalescing leos in several years, so no I have not used it for them. I can tell you that my Rhacs all have firm stools, so I don't think it would be much different for leos. The Leachianus Diet has a higher amount of fiber than the other two formulations if that would help in you choice of which to use.

Fortunately, I have not had any convalescing leos, either! (knock-on-wood)... but I do get LOTS of email and calls from people that do. It's good to have product suggestions for them. Thanks!
