Tillandsia in Texas?

wcumagic Feb 08, 2004 06:51 AM

I just returned from a trip to Texas. I was staying in the town called Smiley, which is about 90 miles east of San Antonio. In some of the trees there (mesquite and something else I could never figure out) there was what looked like clumps of Tillandsia in them. I saw old dried up flowers on them apparently from summer. Is this what it is? We went to the Witte Museum and one of their displays called it "ball moss", but I have never seen a moss like this. I brought some back and I'll try to post a pic of it later if no one knows what it is. Will this do well in captivity? What is it?
Thanks to any responses.
