THE GREAT DEBATE!!

dragon55 Feb 08, 2004 07:38 AM

Ok, I've spent the last couple of days reading about flouresent and mercury vapor bulbs. All the tests and essays are all and good but I wanted to get on this forum and get some real opinions from people that I know are out there right now taking care of dragons that they care for. So, what is your view in the mercury vapor vs. floresent when it comes to dragons?

Mercury's are great if your tank is big enough. The animal is not supposed to get within 12 inches of the bulb, so the tank needs to be tall enough that the bulb isn't too close. This is the opposite for flourescents, where the beardie needs to be within 12 inches to get any benefits. I use a powersun 160 watt and don't need any other source of heat for my cage (2x2x4).

Are you talking about MVB vs. Flourescent uvb bulbs, or plain flourescents?

That's what I thought. Sorry, I can't offer an opinion, as I don't use either.
