Something is not right

bigdee Feb 08, 2004 12:46 PM

I had these 2 housed together for like 2yrs about a month ago I had the female with another male and she became gravid. I just put her back in with this male and he is biting her and it does not seem like love bites, what is wrong

How long before you put her back in the tank with the other male? I've had male leos attack me if I forget to wash my hands after picking up another male. If she still smells like the other male he may be confused.

it might be trying to breed with her, but since she has mated , she might be not all that receptive to him.. thereby enhancing the bites. it could be what the other person said too.. sepatarete them out for a bit.. and try to put them back later..if not return that female to the male cage that impreganated her.

Hi

I now it has to do with putting her back in with the original male after she has been in with a second male. That is because the second male gets his scent on her and then you put her back in with the first male and he can smell that.

I had that happen once and so I took her right back out of the original males tank and I swabbed her down with some of that disinfectant stuff that the vet. uses and is safe to use on reptiles (can't remember the name right know) and them I put her back into the first males tank and there wasn't anymore problems.

I'am sure someone on here can tell you also of something else you can swab her down with.

Bactine maybe.

Hi

Bactine could be a possibility, but diluted a little bit. Good idea.

Go with 10-1 water to bactine and just give her a good bath. She may not like it but keep her in for atleast 10min. Just let her soak and the bactine will clean off the scent markers as well as any unwated bacteria (yay bactine). Then put her back with the first male and monitor closely for 30min or so to make sure he doesn't take another hit at her.
