WD babies ?'s. Shedding, diet, ect.....

deuce02 Feb 08, 2004 12:52 PM

Got a few ?'s about my babies. First, one has just went through his first shed. The other has yet to start shedding. The one who shed last week seems to eat much more then the other, and it shows, what a belly!! and it is a bit larger, not much but larger. How long can it take for them to have their first shed. I have them in a 20 gallon for now, have a reptisun 5.0 18" bulb and a proper basking spot. Lots of places to hide and a large water dish. They are eating good size crickets, over 1/2" now and 1" meal worms no prob. They also get fruit and greens offered daily which they seem to enjoy. The only problem is the smaller one doesnt eat like the larger one and im worried. She also hasnt shed yet. They are aprox 3 months old now.
Pic is the smaller one.

It can take awile for them to shed, and the more they eat the more often they shed. The smaller one may be intimidated by the larger one, which may be why she eats less. You may need to separate them or feed her separately if the bigger one continues to grow faster than she does. The tank is way to small even for two small babies, if you upgraded them to a 55 gallon tank the smaller one would have more room for itself and you might see an improvement in its eating.

I very much plan on changing cages, the 20 gallon was initially due to them being so small, they were only 3" big each. It was that or putting these 2 tiny lil guys in a 100 gallon. Either way they are moving soon to a larger cage. Deff by next weekend. I do provide them with plenty of hanging vines to climb and places to hide in the cage. I watch them for aggressive behavior and have yet to see any what so ever between the 2. If i did i would have pulled 1 out by now. I do pull her out to eat, not every day but couple times a week to eat by her self and she just wont eat as much as the other. Either way she seems pretty much in great overall condition, just a lil on the smaller side and lack of her first shed. thanks for the input.

What is the humidity level in the tank?

deuce02 Feb 16, 2004 11:18 PM

the humidity level is fine, its checked a few times a week. The larger one shed just fine, the other just hasnt. Its starting to look like she might just shed here shortly but im not sure, she is starting to look like the other when he shed.
thanks
