Hi, they are nice anymals with a very big distribuition area, so they can tolerate very diverse humidity range. The temperature can be 28-35°C, with a hotspot. They can get 40cm, so a terrarium shout be at least 80l x 50h x40d.

Could you be more specific? Exactly what countries do they range in? And more importantly, what is their typical microhabitat like (beaches, rainforests, open spaces, etc)?

thanks for your post

Tropidurus torquatus ranges from Paraquay to guyana. Here, in Brazil, they are typic from "cerrado" complex. They lives even in the walls of big cities. They are good feeders, prefers a semi-humid(60%). I think they are as selective as agamas, with similar requeriments. More questions?

What do you mean by "cerrado" complex? As for me having any other questions, i'm eager for any more information you give me about them! thanks for being so helpful!

Cerrado is a vegetation unique from Brazil. Tropidurus are usually not calm lizards, but they are goods animals for the terrarium. Place rocks to them, under a spotlight its a must. A good source of UV light and a small dish of water are good too. They eats well crickets and they love cockroaches. They lay 2-6 eggs(usually 4).

Temperatures are really that high?! What about nighttime temperatures? I suppose you don't have a cooler winter season down there do you?

Bushmaster Feb 13, 2004 04:47 AM

You are right, we dont have a very cold winter here. I sugest to you keep the temp in the summer at 34°C at the hotside of the terrarium and 28C at the other side, during the day and 24°-26° at the night. In the winter, 22°-24°C at the night. During the day, the temp can reach 32° in the hot side and 26°C in the cold side, but the higher temp must be reached later in the day, like at noon. Its also very important to decrease the humidity level at 40%. Our winter is very dry one.
I hope not to make a very complicated sheet, but sorry. I'm really not good to writing in english.
