Insurance

Has anyone ever found reptile veterinary insurance in the U.S.? I saw someplace once, but I can't find it again. I always fear that day when one of my herps comes down with something that'll cost alot for surgery or something, because then I'll have to loan money from everywhere and it'll just be a major pain.

I was just reading an article in this magazine. It starts out by saying that pet insurance is basicly a forced savings account and almost never covers the entire cost of the bill. The same thing can be accomplished by paying the same monthy premium to a saving account. It goes on to give a couple of senarioes of why insurance doesnt pay on animals.

I followed up on this pet insurance thing because I was also interested in it. I called VPI and after talking to a custoemr service rep, its not worth it for beardies. You pay an average of 85 a yr per animal (if you have one maybe) snd onlyu covers about 80-90% percent of bill (for routine check up ; not sure about more comprehensive). You get reimbursed after you pay the vet. Hope this helps.
