I like to bass fish and panfish with ultra light, I live right next to lake ontario and we have some big small mouth bass average is about 17 inches.

I certainly am. Unfortunately, since I started raising animals for a living, I don't really have any time for it anymore. Always another mouth to feed or another cage to clean. Most of the fishing I like takes a fairly long time to prepare for.

I like any kind of "active" fishing. I really don't like sitting in a boat (unless they are biting good!)

My favorites would be, in descending order.

1) Spear fishing in the Pacific with scuba--you get to pick the fish you want!--no small ones, no junk fish, etc. Just look out for sharks. The fish you get can sure beat you up. I remember my first good sized halibut that I put on a stringer that was tied to my weight belt. My leg and side was so black and blue the next day, from it smashing into my leg, I looked like I had been in an accident. It was about 34 inches long and 18 inches wide--very strong fish. The day I caught it, I wished it was larger,--the day after, I wished it had been smaller. I learned to immobilize them better after that incident!

2) poke-polling (also in the pacific)

3) stream/river fishing (where you have to hike a lot, preferably in a mountainous area) for trout, steelhead, salmon

4) free diving for abalone (also in the pacific--and look out for sharks again)

5) Any type of boat fishing--deep sea, still fishing, trolling, etc.

I've never tried ice fishing because there is no ice here, and I've never wanted to travel in the middle of winter! But I have always wanted to try it, and I have an uncle that does it regularly in Canada and MN. Oh well, at least it isn't freezing out here in sunny Ca.! I don't know how you guys brave the cold. I think it's very cold out when it gets into the upper 40s! Too cold to go out fishing anyway, unless you have a wet suit on. Today it is about 70 here.

Stay warm,
Rodney

Way to go.

Never got into ice fishing. Not much for the cold but I do fish in summers. I did a lot as a kid and just kinda lost the opportunity, but with my husband and his family we rent a cottage in northern WI and spend an entire week fishing. My best is a 22 inch small mouth bass. Needless to say the next day all the locals were in our fishing area and they were impressed that a little girl caught such a big fish using nothing more than a hook with worm and bobber.

Heres my whopper, enjoy. He tasted wonderfully and gave us 6 lbs of filets.

I love to fish, but not the way you do. Mine comes from collecting the many odd species of tropical fish that live here in Florida. Can't help it. I put a line in the water (for bass) and next thing I know I'm scanning the bank with a net. Makes for an interesting home aquaria.
