Tomorrow is the big day...

hhawk20005 Feb 08, 2004 09:47 PM

I am going to be introducing my female to my male for the first time tomorrow. First time for both geckos, and first time for me also. I just have a few quick questions... Do i put the female in with the male? or male in with the female... Also, how long do i leave them together for? After they mate, how long until i notice eggs in her? After she lays eggs, should i introduce the male to her again, or does she retain sperm all season? Thanks for any help
Matt

1)I'd put the male into the females enclosure (but that's me).
2)It should happen right away if there both receptive. If not overnight as long as they aren't fighting.
3)You'll notice eggs in about a week or so.
4)You will need to re-introduce her for more eggs just make sure shes nice and fat before doing so.
5)No sperm retention

Anywhere up to a month. Usually 2 to 3 weeks.

1)I always introduce the female into the males cage.

2) Usually the male shows interest immediatly and if the female is receptive copulation occurs with in a few minutes.

3) You can leave them together overnight, I usually seperate after a few hours.

4) Eggs will be layed 3-4 weeks after copulation, and then evry 12-17 days there after until she is done.

5) NO need to reintroduce after eggs layed. They WILL retain sperm for the whole season, some people introduce, but I find that generally once they start laying, my females are not receptive to the males and are quick to let them know that they are not interested. The male will continue to try which could lead to injury to one or both geckos.

My girls live with my male 365 so I never had the chance to observe this. Once again thanks for the info.

Ohh and one other question, could you possibly breed one female with more than one male and get offspring from each father. For example if I moved my male into a seperate tank and bred one of my females that has already layed with a second male (my friend has a tremper giant) would the eggs be from the first or second father or possibly both.
