Atelopus flavescens

dancingfrogs Feb 09, 2004 12:30 AM

I seen these mentioned in a couple of books as having a glow to them similar to a firefly, at least I think it was these species. The book also mentioned that these frogs were one of the more common (in the pet trade) of this type of frog. I've looked for them, but so far have had no luck. Anyone who has more info, please let me know.

What books mentioned this? I am doing a little research on the Atelopus, but have never seen this mentioned. A.flavescens are a very beautiful toad. The tops of them are yellow to orange, and the bellies are a bright pinkish purple. Like most atelopus their are very few in the hobby, even though they used to be brought in and did better than most other species, I don't know what numbers if any were brought into the US. I don't know of any one with this species, but I will email some that does keep atelopus, and pic thier brain. It is really very sad how fast this group is going extinct. If your not on frognet, you might want to join, because I am going to post a few questions in the next few days about this group, and some of those guys will know a lot more than me.

I'm not sure but I think it was The guide to owning Poison Frogs, by Jerry G. Walls. I'm not sure because I bought the book about a year ago and lent it out this summer and haven't got it back yet. I think this is where I read about this phenonmenon, I Know this species is mentioned in that book, But I'm not certain this is where I read about the glowing phenomenon.
