What do these 2 behaviors/symptoms mean?

shopaholic Feb 09, 2004 12:34 AM

Hi: I observed 2 strange things today with my Cham(by strange I mean, that I haven't seen him do before):

1. he left a runny poop on the floor(it looks like bird poop instead of the usual formed elongated egg shaped looking excrament). Is this Diarreah? What do I do next?

2. He is sleeping in a vertical position while hanging on the screen with body pressed against it. He usually sleeps on a horizontal or slightly angled branch. Is this normal?

Run Down: screened enclosure, 12 hour light cycle with basking area at 88-92F., ambient at 68-73F, 1 month old UV 5.0 tube, humidifyer 4x/day(15 min interval w/ RO water, now switching to Spring water), additional drip cup over head, and hand spraying, Since arrival has been eating 6-7 1-1.25 inch silkies/day. Think thats it.

Thanks-Maggie

My panther also have point 2 behavior sometimes. Sign of escape? Also, I was using a reptarium cage to keep my cham. and I have feeling that he already know how I open the cage and trying to escape from there.

I don't see anything odd here if this is the first time you've seen these. He may have drunk a lot more water than usual. If you see really runny feces with undigested insect parts and a lot of mucous over a week then I might wonder if there is an intestinal problem.

every now and then i'll see the runny stool (looks like a broken egg)...it usually occurs if i stressed him a bit like when i have to remove him to clean his cage.

I know alot of chams have a favorite sleep spot but mine doesn't...i turn off the cage lights and dim the room lights for a half hour and let him find a spot to settle into..sometimes it's on the end of a branch..sometimes virtually upside down and sometimes it's on the screen walls.

Thanks you guys. Today he looked better( I should say the stool did-nothing runny and no insect parts). IT helps to know what to look for. Appreciate the help!!! Maggie
