red ackie breeding group?'s

boastud Feb 09, 2004 12:52 AM

I am building a cage to house 1.3 breeding red ackies in the future. I was thinking 6'x2'x2'. Is that suitable? Like i said i am building it so if that isn't suitable i will do it differently, just want some input.

Are you going with the stock tank? From what I've read that is an acceptable size. I've done alot of research/surfing on the whole cage issue concerning ackies. I stopped at farm and fleet a
stock tank of that size is around a hundred. After all my surfing
and viewing of the different enclosures available I,m pretty sure I'm going the stock tank route. I'm a mason, so I understand the various materials/methods of construction. You can't build one and get the durability of a stock tank at that price. Let me know what route your going, maybe I can give you some ideas. Maybe you have thought of something I haven't. Check out www.usplastics.com they have sheets of pvc available a guy could build a nice enclosure with their product not cheaply though.Either way goodluck, Clint

That will probably work. If you haven't bred ackies before I would start out with 1.1. That would avoid a lot of headaches. Once you get that down, then add females.

why is it more of a headache with multiple females?

There is more possibility for fighting or stress with the addition of more animals. It might work fine, but it also may not. 1.1 is easiest, and generally the easiest way to have success.

Joe Lewis @Rare Earth told me I could get away with a 50 gallon breeder for a pair of reds, I'm going to go with a stocktank 4',2'h,2'd thats plenty big for a pair, that size would be alright for a trio.
