new dragon food.....ok as staple?

Becky Jun 08, 2003 12:34 PM

I have a VERY spoiled very finicky female dragon. She absolutely refuses to eat any of the things that are supposed to be the most healthy for her (ie: any kind of greens..Romane and red-leaf lettuce, collards, dandilions, escarole, kale have all been tried). She literally turns up her nose at them and walks away LOL.

So I've been looking for a peleted food she likes. She other day I found this Rep-Cal Adult Bearded Dragon Food. She LOVES it! I just wanted to ask if this food can completely replace greens? She will eat peas, beans, carrots, fruits, etc. and of course crickets. Does this sound like a good diet?

Supposedly it has everything they need in it. Some people raise their beardies from hatchlings on pellets and they never touch a cricket.
So, the answer is ....yes, it's fine.

Continue to try to get your beardie to eat greens by placing the pellets on top of them, he may accidentally get a pc. of green and begin to like them.

It's not that she hasn't tried them. She is a year old and has been eating greens since she was a baby. But lately she has gotten more and more of an attitude. I have given her nothing but greens for a month (except for the crickets because she needs the vit. dust) and she STILL refuses! She did not lose weight, I do not know how...I even resorted to giving her one or two single pieces of lettuce to make sure she wasn't eating just a little...nope...the pieces stayed there all day. So not wanting to starve her, I gave up and gave her the pellets. I also took her to the vet thinking there was something wrong with her appetite...but after two visits she is completely free of parasites and still won't eat greens. She really makes it a point to be a pain...it's one of her traits She thinks she is a queen and expects to be treated that way.
