You may have to experiment a bit, as it would be hard to tell you exactly where to put them. If it is too wet on the moist unheated end, then put holes, a few at a time, until it is the dampness you want.

I put holes along the sides of the container about 2-3 inches down from the top. Start with fewer like 3 on each side. I used a 1/4 inch drillbit but you can use a little larger depending on the size of the snake. The drill bit is one that has a long shaft with a center point and 2 cutting points at the end of the shaft. I also put a couple in the lid. Be careful when you drill, the sterlite may crack. Put a board behind the sterlite. That way you can drill through the sterlite into the board. When drilling, start with less pressure and let the drillbit do the work to avoid cracking the sterlite.

Wherever you decide to put the holes, and how many you decide to make, I would recommend using a soldering iron tip instead of a drill bit. I stopped cracking the plastic containers once I stopped drilling them. You may have better luck than I did, however.
