Lighting Alternatives?

Sauria Feb 09, 2003 04:02 PM

I was wondering if anyone knows if there are alternatives to those expensive UV bulbs that most pet shops stock. They are so expensive and touchy. Are there any other bulbs (say at a home emprovement store) which would be adequate enough for reptile health?

The only lighting that produces UVB are the flourescent UVB tubes, and mercury vapor bulbs. Other bulbs, like from home improvement stores, simply don't put out the required wavelengths.

Does anyone know if sunlight entering the house through a standard window still provides the wavelengths that produce vit D?
