The hemipenial bulges are on the body side infront of the vent. If it's male there should be 2 bulges with an indent between them and the vent. The indent is caused by the hemipenis.

I think they are on the tail side, as shown in these pictures.....

It says in the description just before the vent. I'm pretty sure that's the body side.

I think you are misunderstanding what you are reading. When you're holding the dragon to sex it, you hold it with it's tail towards you and lifted up. That's when the bulges are just above the vent.

Not above the vent as in when held upright like a person.

Sorry you caught me at the end of a 10hour shift I'm kinda groggy. Ok I got a question then, do male dragons have prominent pre anal pores like other herps.

That I'm not quite so sure. Maybe one of our more experienced herpers could answer that one.

Yes, the males do.
However, I have seen a few females that look almost the same as males up until around 12 months of age. I myself have one I was going to sell as a male and I turned around one day to see her being bred. She has since become one of my best producers.

I have a 6 year old female with HUGE femoral pores. I used to think that was a good way to sex them, until I saw her. If I hadn't seen her lay eggs I would have sworn she was a male. Once I learned to look at the bulges above the vent, I have had NOOOO problem. It gets easier to tell. I also had a "male" sandfire that I bought from a very reputable reptile dealer. Well I just assumed they knew what they were talking about, since they were suppossed to be the experts. Well I got "him" home, and as I brought them out of brumation noticed "he" wasn't getting too excited about it. So I turned up that tail and low and behold, he was a she!!! I won't complain though!! She will make a beautiful momma.
