Cage Design

boa88 Feb 09, 2004 04:15 PM

I was redesigning my gtps cage and had an idea. I thought since my gtp never comes onto the ground that I could make the bottom all water. The cage the snake is in now is an aquarium so retaining the water would be no problem. Just wanted some other opinions.
Thanks,
Andrew

ive tried this= BAD IDEA!!! wait till it poos in there it gets all nasty and stagnent in hours. Plus its a pain in the #$%(* to change it. Also it will create to much humidity which leads to bacteria and mold. Maybe a day or two prior to shed but otherwise a bad idea.

How do you know your chondro never goes to the ground? Chondros often cruise at lights out for a couple of hours, perch again for a couple of hours and cruise a little more. All have thier own routines, but I'm sure your snake explores more than the top of the cage.

As Dirt stated, an all water substrate is a bad idea. Not only is it a pain to keep up with, it WILL create a stagnant environment, that could cause serious problems with your animal. Stick to what works and what is best for the animal.

I tried this when I orignally purchased my green tree python then read about all the dangers. I personally would recommend this for a day or so during a shed so the snake will shead easly and gets a chance to realy drink all the water he wants. It was strang though because I had PVC purchase all over and he swam in the water more then climbing. Bet hey try it out in like a 10 gallon with no filter running for a day or so or get a 20L and get a filter in and keep it for 2 days. But def give it the option of purchase. You will notice its color to really come out and look the best you have seen even compared to after a fresh shed.
