Cage Front opinions please......more

PBM Feb 09, 2004 07:00 PM

Hey, I am just wondering what everyone prefers....Sliding glass, plexiglass/acrylic framed or unframed "doors" ?????? I prefer sliding glass such as visions/neodosha/habitat systems(some), over the plexiglass fronts of say boaphile, moonstruck, precision, etc. Anyone else care to voice there opinion? The reason I prefer sliding glass.....when I am cleaning the cage, there is no door hanging in front of me, swinging around, which creates a good chance of cracking/scratching the plexi/acrylic, and glass doesn't tend to fog up over time, overall it just seems more long term, and it's easy to pull out and thoroughly clean the glass. I'm sure the plexi is easy to wipe clean as well, but from what I've experienced in about two years the plexi will be so scratched up and clouded that you'll either live with sub-optimal asthetics or change it. So, nevermind the cage brand name, if your favorite "brand name" offered you the choice of sliding glass or the plexi type "doors" which would you choose and why(assuming cost is nearly equal). Thanks for any replies take care!

I prefer the plexi/acrylic for the simple reason sometimes we have an overly enthusiastic feeder that can't wait till the door opens. LOL. With the plexi I am not worried about them hitting it so hard it breaks. Not that it necessarily would break, just makes me cringe that it might. Also, even though you did not care about brand names, I love my Boaphiles !!! The door drops down out of the way and we have had no problems with the doors becoming scratched (a soft cloth and glass cleaner and they are good to go).

Generally speaking, I prefer sliding glass (high quality tempered glass with rounded edges to be specific) but I do have one cage I built with 1/4 inch thick lexan panels in a framed, side-hinged doorway (my burm cage). I'm building another four unit cage setup that will have sliding doors, but they'll probably be acrylic or plexi panels until I can afford the tempered glass that I want.
