Very sick ball?

onitora Feb 09, 2004 07:16 PM

I got a 14" ball shipped in to me about a week ago. He's been doing fine... Yesterday, I didn't handle him, but he appeared fin in the tank. I'm keeping him on 50/50 peat/cypress as I usually do... plenty of water, place to hide... Temps a little low, both day and night, but far from unhealthy...

Today, I unballed him from where he was laying, and he rolled onto his back, and started squirming around, unable to flip over. I flipped him up right, and he started moving his head around like he had major vertigo... Further more, his skin seemed loose, but not like he's dehydrated, somehow... different.

I've seen this when a snake gets SUPER overheated, but other than that, I'm baffled.... Anyone?

I think one of the symptoms of BID (IBD?)is the snake not being able to right itself when on it's back.

he looks like he is extremly extremly underweight, right?
if that is it, then he may have sickness i don't know how is it called, but all i know our sanke died because it was to late to treat her!
diesease spread on the other 2 too, but we gave them vitamins and they are OK now!
so if the snake looks like this and have problems shedding, u should take it to the vet, to see if it has disease i'm talking about!and if it's not too late she/he will survive!
our grass sanke was extremly weak, so he was hardly able to lift herself to climb!!

Snake isn't underweight... And I haven't had it long enough to see a shed be good or bad. I think it's weak, but can't really tell, as it's to disoriented to try to make a solid movement...

Whats this BID? It sounds familiar, but it's been a while since I've researched into snake diseases... My stock normally does great...

It only affects Boids (Boas and Pythons) and is always 100% fatal. If, after you do some reading, you feel this might be the problem take the snake to the Vet. But call ahead first and mention that it might be IBD, because it is also highly contagious. Good luck.
