Hey, what ever happened with that stollen ball collection????

GaboonKeeper Feb 09, 2004 07:25 PM

Just asking because I think it was kind of rediculous and rude to ask people for money for this....... People get stuff stollen every day..... Why would someone buy these animals unless they were going to breed them and sell babies for rediculous prices...... So basicly people that gave him money were people that he would have sold a baby ball to for 10K...... If you ask me it takes some pair to ask for help like that..... Get a home security system!!!!!!

Well to tell you the truth nobody gave any money to anyone and no one asked for any money. The request was for a pledge for a reward for anyone who had info leading to the conviction of the jerk thief that stole the snakes. Does that help your opinion on the situation?

BTW, do you keep gaboon vipers? Just curious.

The situation where pledged donors where recognized by name had the unfortunate (and I suspect unintended) consequence of putting pressure on potential donors. The decision to donate or not to any particular cause is a personal one. Also, I don't think the idea of a pledge drive to raise reward money came from the person who's snakes where stolen. Sure, in hind sight it might have been better for him to have purchased one less high end snake and have used that money for a security system rather than relying on secrecy for security.

I don't follow your logic as to why potential buyers should resent someone who is working to provide them with a product? If the price is too high you don't have to buy. However, those that do buy at high prices provide incentive for breeders to work hard at producing more and that hard work will result in the most snakes being available as soon as possible. Until there are enough to go around the limited availability will be rationed by high prices.

Well said Randy; very succinct and to the point. I agree entirely with yours and Ralph Davis's comments on this subject.

Hey Jerky, Jeff didn't ask for a dime... this was entirely the initiative of Dan and Colette Sutherland (THE SNAKE KEEPER) of ballpython.com. Don't you wish you had friend like that?

Well if that is the case, I opplogize...... I guess I did not read it all correctly..... Sorry to sound like a jerk and I am sorry to this houston guy..... Now I think you should say you are sorry for the childhood name calling...... You should be alittle more grown up like the others who responded without the name calling..... Thanks for most of the adult replies and helping me to understand better about the situation............. And yes, I do keep Gaboons, puff adders, and rhino vipers..... Also some high end leopard geckos....... Check out my gallery, there are some pics.......
