I got my mali about a year ago at a reptile show as well. For the first month he barely ate, and when he did it was just nibbles. Try this: Put a sheet, or something, around his cage to where he cannot see anything but the interior of his cage. make sure it is HOT!! at first my guy wouldnt eat unless the basking spot was 110º or higher. Also, Dandylion (spelling) greens are my guys favorite, along with the flowers. Also, don't handle him at all for about a week/1 1/2.
Hope this helps, it did with mine.

Even if he won't eat, he'll probably drink. Place him in about 1/2" of warm water (98 - 100 degrees). The water should be as warm as a warm bath but it should not burn you. If it burns you it will burn the uro. I use a rubbermade container that I place above the kitchen sink for bathing. That way it's easy to clean out. Keep warming up the water as water that shallow will cool quickly. If he seems nervous, you can slowly back away so you can still see him and sometimes this will relax them enough to drink. Some uro's will not drink at all when being watched. But stay close enough to catch him if he decided to leap out.

When I got my uros they didn't eat for over a month. They lost a little weight but keeping them hydrated is what makes the difference. Also, keep your uro warm. Drafty areas or too low of temps will almost always cause respiratory problems and later on pneumonia.

Good luck.

Dandelion, nasturtiums, pansies, hibiscus, roses...

All these are good - be absolutely certain that they are free of fertilizers or pesticides before feeding them!!

Mine LOVE dandelion flowers. It is their favourite treat, by far beating out their second fav, green beans.

Ya, I guess string beans, the green ones. I chop them up into the bowl, or hand feed them. As for the dandelion flowers, I've just dropped them whole into the bowl. The uros will tear them up and eat them.

Hope this helps,
Nicki

"make sure it is HOT!! at first my guy wouldnt eat unless the basking spot was 110º or higher"

Your basking spot should be no less then 120º. I would guess that would definately be the problem.
