Liquid UVB???

beardielover13 Feb 09, 2004 07:55 PM

Today when I went to get crix, I was looking at the supplies and saw a little bottle of UVB, has anyone ever tried it? It was kinda expensive (like $12 for a little 1.5 ounce bottle). I was just wondering if anyone used it and what they thought of it.

Also, i might plan a herp show near my town and was wondering how would I plan it? Thanks.

IIf it is, it is a vitamin D3 supplement and you do not want it. It is too strong (concentrated) and has been associated with kidney failure in reptiles.

Yes, i have been using it for the past 2 years. I have had no bad results yet, but its is only worth to buy it if you have more then 1 cage that needs uvb lighting cause the drops expire after like 6 months. so if you add $10-12 x2 u may just want to stick with the uv bulb that last a year for the same price. Also u have to give them a drop of the stuff weekly, so u can;t be forgetful. So really the choice is your, if u have multiple reptiles you may want to try it.

on VIN (Veterinary Information Network, an online expert and resource list for veterinarians) it is highly cautioned against. You need to be very aware of how much your animals are getting (in terms if IU per kg). Renal failure is something that occurs over time, two years without illness does not mean it is not causing your herps a problem.

Agreed! I haven't used it and never will. I have heard way too many negative comments about that stuff. Stick with a good sup that contains D3

I agree that this is not a good product. I manage a pet store in a veterinary hospital, and we have seen ALOT of problems come in from this stuff. People don't give their herps UVB thinking they can just use this and save money on lighting. They show up at the vet with either MBD or kidney failuer. Point blank, it is a scientific fact that UVB can only be obtained through light rays, not bottles. Would a plant grow in the dark as long as it had miracle grow?? Sorry, I just think those type products falsely advertise, rip people off and jeopardize the health of reptiles.

Thanks for all the input. I did not buy it but was just wondering if it was bad or good. Maybe I should reccomend to the pet store to get rid of the product. i will tell them about kingsnake as well.
