Reptariums appropriate?.....

xitch45 Feb 09, 2004 08:44 PM

I have a sandfire ( and something else, i forgot) beardy and was wondering if a Reptarium (all mesh cage) would be good for her. I am asking because i want to make sure it will be hot enough for her. i know they like it hot (i KNOW my mali uro wouldnt even sleep in one, ). So, are they OK, or should they be in a glass enclosure to keep them warmer, and bacteria etc. out. Main question: Are they suitable?

Main question: Are they suitable?

It would only be suitable if you blocked off three sides in order to hold in some of the heat.

I personally only like them as outdoor sunning cages. They can get to be a real pain in the a$$ with threads and the zipper snagging, etc.

I personally would not use one for a beardie. (unless for a sunning cage.)

I have a pair of emeralds swifts, in a 65 gallon reptaruim, they LOVE it, they run all over, I think it really works for them.

But I was not very impressed when I got it, the zippers are horrible, like when you were little, and your coat zipper got stuck in the material, and it would not go UP or DOWN. LOL

Well same with these the extra material on the edges is stringy, and catches constantly !!!

Also I have mine standing long wise, so its tall, and geesh I practically have to fall in, to get water in and out of the bottom.

I have heard, well it is hearsay, that crickets can chew holes in the mesh.Letting them get out in your home can be a pain, especially late at night when they are chirpping.

I had a 75 gallon reptarium for a while. There are definitely some pros and cons for having them. Some pros are that for starters, they're a lot cheaper than buying an aquarium, easier to move, etc. I didn't have a problem keeping my dragon warm enough. Chubbs(my dragon) especially liked being able to climb at every chance she got up the sides.

I've found that crickets will find a way to get out of just about any cage, no matter how well built. But since I've replaced my reptarium, I've noticed fewer escapees in my spider traps

Hope this helps.
