Just wondering.......

Are the orange eyes turning silver a genetic trait or does it just happen? I'm not really into retics but I was just curious as to what actually caused it.

Hi, I doubt that it is genetic. I've seen this before with Ambons crossed with silvers. I haven't seen any sibling of this one. Some of the dwarf locales (Jampea, Kayuadi, Kalatoa etc...) have silver or silverish eyes. Calicos usually have some silver in their eyes at some point in their development. I just think it's a beautiful animal. I love retic eyes.

Thanks,
Phil

Do you know of any that may have been proven genetic?

Luke, I don't know of any "genetic silver eyes" but the silver eyes in the "true" dwarfs seem to be a dominant trait for that particular isolated population. One charicteristic trait of the dwarves are silver or silverish (Jampea) eyes.

So Jampea's have silver eyes their whole life and the dwarves go from orange to silver? Or am I just misunderstanding what you are talking about?

Luke, most of the "true" dwarves (Jampea,Kayuadi,Kalatoa) have silver eyes their whole lives. I've noticed many Jampea specimens have silverish eyes, not always totaly silver.
Thanks,
Phil
