I need info on the difference between a spot heat bulb and reg bulb......

mngrivera Feb 09, 2004 10:38 PM

We are in the process of getting our ledges/shelves up on our custom cage. I need to know if in length, is there much difference from a regular bulb and reptile spot light bulb? We have the lighting up and we were able to manipulate the fixture we have to point diagonally rather than just horizontal. Its one of those combo light fixtures with a florescent and 3 ceramic lamps. The one lamp by its self is the one we moved diagonally. What do you think a safe distance is between light bulb and basking ledge is? Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you

as far as i know there is no difference between a household spot bulb and a regular heat lamp marketed for reptiles other than the cost , which annoyed me.

regular household buld cost me a couple of quid for a few of them at a supermarket or my local pet shop sells 1 for £5

hmmmmmm

i now only use regular house hold bulbs for heat (i use the spot ones for making a basking spot) , provided they are only being used as ur heat source then there will be no probs. u would still need to have a seperate uv light (i have a uv tube light as well as the household bulb for heat).

if its mercury vapor bulbs ur using these are giving of ur uv and heat so in this case a regular household bulb would not be a suitable replacement and addition uv lighting would need to be purchased as well

hope that helps
