possible sick boa???

mbleek448 Feb 09, 2004 11:08 PM

She just shed yesterday so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but it seems like she doesn't have any strenth. I'll hold her by her tail and it seems she has to struggle to rise up.I also fed her today and she just bit at it. It was like she couldn't wrap around it. I started carnivore calcium spray. Would this have any affect? I use Carefresh bedding. Goodbad?
Thank You Marshall

If it were me, I would take the boa to a reputable reptile vet. Lethargy or lack of strength could be signs of illness. Shedding should not weaken a boa like you are talking about. As for feeding, if you are feeding pre-killed or frozen-thawed prey, many snakes will not constrict it but will simply latch on and swallow. I've never heard of a calcium spray, but would doubt its effectiveness. Generally speaking calcium needs to be ingested and snakes don't typically need calcium supplements because of their whole-animal diets. Best of luck with your girl, hopefully she's okay.
