Regina vs. Giant Orange - Are they different/same/variations?

DFoster Feb 09, 2004 11:36 PM

I have talked to several people and read several different things on the Regina tincs and the Giant Orange. I know some breeders sell both. Some people have said they're the same, some say they're just a type of citronella, what do you guys/girls out there think? What have you heard? Any and all input is appreciated! I would like to work with both but if they're the same, just a type of citronella, or some other variation...so I'm very confused. Let me know what you all think. Thanks in advance!

I am certainly not an expert in this area, but from what I understand, these two frogs are considered distinct species. However, one must be careful about buying the Giant Orange morph in the hobby, because some frogs labeled as Giant Orange are actually hybrids between Citronellas and Giant Orange that came from the Cincinnati Zoo. Check out the link explaining this that came out around last year under the old forum.

I don't know if this clears up anything, or whether I've just added fuel to the fire of confusion. However, this is what I was referencing as the Giant Orange morph disaster when hybridizing was being discussed earlier.

Homer, Thank you very much for the links and the input. I checked out all of the old posts and it cleared things up alot - well, it informed me - are things actually clear even now? Do most accept the zoo fluke? And so is anyone working with a pure Regina strain? I'd love to get my hands on some. Thanks!
