GreenIguana Society Adoption

svinarsk Feb 10, 2004 10:50 AM

Well after filling out the adoption form and etc for a iggie that I found to replace my old ones cage, I have not recieved a reply. How long does it usually take to get a reply from the person adopting out their ig? I fileld out the form aout 2 days ago. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure I know where my Miles went, and its in this small hole in the wall that leads in between the walls and under the shower and toilet (raised on a platform). So, it is freezing cold down there I imagine and very dusty. It has been almost 5 days that Miles is gone. Very sad experience. Maybe now that I have a big ig I can give him the same love I gave Miles, except in a bigger way. And, the new one wont be able to escape cause HES TOO BIG!

Sorry if I ranted.

-Philipp

Hi Philip,

I am sorry to hear about Miles. I applaud you for wanting to adopt another iguana, but I really think it would be worth going into the wall to find Miles. It takes cold-blooded animals quite a while to die from the cold, and he might still be alive. Or at least you would know what really happened to him, so it never happens again.

I lost Bud yesterday for over two hours, and I know how sad and panicked I felt, and so I feel for you. I hope you will find Miles. And if he has died, I know you will give some needy iguana a happy home.

I hope the links below will be useful for helping Miles.

Unfortunately it would take tearing a wall down and tering through my entire bathroom. Im not ready to remodel the bathroom nor do I have the cash. As much as I want to find my friend, I dont want to ruin my home in order to do so.

One of my friend's iguanas escaped. It also went through some hole in her bathroom. She couldnt find it for weeks/months. At the same time, there was a story all over the local papers about an iguana found in a neighborhood and brought to the zoo. She didnt read it and her friends that did did not see the connection. Eventually, someone did tell her about the story so she went to the zoo and checked it out. It was hers. So, maybe you will get lucky and your ig will turn up somewhere too.

I hope it does. Good luck. (and anyway, if it's in a hole, dont give up til you find a body).

It usually takes a couple days or more for the Green Ig Society to screen your adoption paperwork...re...check out your vet, read your answers, etc.
After that, they forward on paperwork to the ig owners. If there was more than one response, they get them all & it is up to them to decide who would make the best home for their loved ig.
REMEMBER...these people are not throwing out their ig, they are looking for thee BEST home to adopt him-her out to. In other words, look at it from their point, would you be so hurried in such a decision?
One last thought, if & when you are contacted, REMEMBER, they are giving up a loved pet. Make sure you give them some time (if they need it) to say good-bye. This is probably heartbreaking for them. They'll feel better though knowing that you have a safe & loving home waiting for their ig!
Good luck!
Terri~

I am sorry about your ig, poor guy. I believe JADE2U and G8TOR rescue igs and adopt them out. I am looking to get one from G8tor soon. It's worth a try.

Tempest survived many very cold nights before he came home with me, almost frozen and close to dead. My vet figures he'd been out for at least 2 weeks, with several of those nights falling below freezing with a heavy frost on the ground - you'd never know it now! Igs are tougher than I ever could have imagined.

Also, check out the petfinder website, there are usually over iguanas listed looking for homes at petfinder.com along with other reptiles. I do hope your ig turns up safe and sound tho, good luck!

For an application that I get VIA email, I respond with in 48 hours.

For ones that come in the mail, I respond as soon as I recieve them as long as call is local.

For inquiries that come in on phone, All calls are returned with in 24 hours unless they are long distance and then they are returned on weekends when I have free long distance. If you do not hear a response with in 7 days, try another rescue.
