Which Cham Species Does better with Handling?

SaveFerris Feb 10, 2004 02:41 PM

My veiled is grown up now and ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT let anyone come near her to touch her. She's so mean!

Which chameleon species would do better with being held?

No chameleons are good at being handled. They are all very teratorial and don't make very good "cuddling" pets. Handling them too much, as far as I know just stresses them out and that stress will eventually kill them. I have had a male veiled for about 4 years now- when I first got him, I thought he just had to "get used to me." After four years, he still hisses when I even come near his cage.

The most docile species i've ever kept is
quadricornis... males esp. the females are very timid, but a male i used to have would hand feed while sitting on my hand.
He had an awesome pesonality.
Like the previous post mentioned, most dont like to be handled at all, but they each have their own unique personalites.
I've even heard of veilds who weren't agressive, but it's rare.
you're best bets starting off with a cb young one, and interacting with it often, hand feeding etc..
Leting it crawl on your hand if it chooses, but not necessarily "handling" them, like you would an iguanna.
hope this helps,
gw

Quads are very timid and one of the last species I'd recommend for handling. ..... not that I'd recommend any cham for handling! Anyopne who who wants to handle their charge should get a beardie!
